An HDTV digital wireless camera system expands HDTV contributions to news and sports broadcasts, and moreover drama production.
The system makes it possible for a hand-held camera inside a building to transmit signals through the window to an SNG (Satellite News Gathering) van on the road outside. The camera can be placed freely inside the building, pointed in any direction, and transmit to the SNG van uninterruptedly even through a window that is not in the direct line of sight. The system is designed to transmit live HDTV signals to a receiver up to 500 meters away in a line-of-sight link. It features an integrated MPEG-2 encoder (MP@HL/422P@HL) with a 16/32/64QAM-OFDM modulator in the 7GHz band. It can therefore be used in a severe multi-path environment without any degradation. There are four choices of transmission bit rate; 24Mbit/s, 30Mbit/s, 45Mbit/s and 60Mbit/s. The wireless camera consumes 100 watts (good for about a half an hour’s operation using a LBP-90 battery pack) and weighs 10 kilograms (22lbs). It also provides a robust return channel for intercom and camera control using the IEEE 802.11b spread spectrum system in the 2.4GHz band. The digital HDTV wireless camera is already in use as a powerful news gathering system in combination with an HDTV DSNG (Digital Satellite News Gathering) van with HDTV wireless receiver.
