MSDF vessel returns home after refueling mission

A Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force supply ship has returned to its home port after its refueling mission in the Indian Ocean.

The supply ship Mashu docked at an MSDF base in Maizuru City in Kyoto Prefecture, western Japan, on Tuesday, welcomed by about 400 people.

Japan began the mission 8 years ago for vessels of the US-led coalition forces engaged in anti-terrorism campaign in Afghanistan.

The Mashu was sent to the Indian Ocean 4 times and completed its final expedition in January 15th, when the law authorizing mission expired.

About 150 crewmembers on board the Mashu reunited with their families for the first time in 3 months.

One member in his 30s said he's proud that he was able to take part in the final refueling mission, and very happy to see his family.
