  • June 10th and 11th (General TV) NHK Special Series “Nippon no Kazoku ga Hijo Jitai!? (Crisis Situation for Japan’s Families!?)

    The reality of the reckless behavior of adolescent children and the rapid increase in divorce will be examined on two consecutive evenings. The theme for the first program is ‘The Unusual Phenomenon of Adolescence’. The behavior of adolescents that leaves parents bewildered has been identified by the latest science as a ‘special mechanism’ that is acquired in the process of human development. Scientific experiments on the influence that the internet and other technologies have on adolescents will also be featured. The theme for the second program will be ‘The Crisis of Couples’. The majority of divorces are initiated by wives, with one of the biggest reasons being that husbands don’t understand the feelings of their spouses. With communication being a determiner of couples’ relationships, neuroscience has clearly shown the differences in perspectives between men and women; the program will look at the latest in scientific knowledge and what it can do to help strengthen the bonds between husbands and wives.

    Among young people, traveling the world on ‘Themed Trips’ is attracting a lot of attention, and some of those travelers who post information about their journeys on social media have tens of thousands of followers. Young people who travel the world will feature in a studio discussion that will also link up with internet broadcasts. They will be asked about their real thoughts, which cannot be understood just by watching their videos, in this unpredictable variety program that will give insights into the way young people are living their lives.

  • June 4th and 11th (BS1) “Shirarezaru Trump World – 360° Camera ga Tanbo suru Shin-Daitoryo wo Unda Sekai (The Unknown World of Trump – Looking into the World that Gave Birth to the New President with a 360° Camera)”

    What was the life that created President Trump and his personality? From his childhood to his business career, the program will follow the life up to his current position. The coverage was done using a 360° camera that captures a complete panoramic perspective. In a first for NHK, as the program is being broadcast the 360° footage will be simultaneously provided over the internet. The program will explore the possibilities of the technology for a documentary, rather than a sports or travel program.

  • June 11th BS1 Special “Itsuwari no Kekkon – Oitsumerareta Syria Nanmin Josei (Fake Marriages – Coercion of Syrian Refugee Women)”

    In Europe, there are increasingly moves to restrict refugees bringing their families to their new homes. In countries in the Middle East which refugees have escaped to, the number of isolated Syrian women is increasing. In Jordan, the Mut’a temporary marriage custom of Shia Islam, primarily for financial assist for women, has taken on a new meaning, with incidents of forced marriages and child brides being reported. The program will portray the critical situations that Syrian women find themselves forced into.

  • June 10th (Educational TV) “SWITCH Interview Tatusjin-tachi (The Experts) Kosaka Daimaou x Tahara Soichiro”

    Kosaka Daimaou, the comedian behind last year’s sensation PIKO TARO, and Soichiro Tahara, a journalist who presented a current affairs debate program on a commercial TV channel for 30 years, will have a wide-ranging discussion. Tahara visits a venue where Kosaka performs and examines the secret behind the success of PIKO TARO and asks him about the mix of comedy and music in his act. The second half of the program sees Kosaka visit Tahara’s office and asks him about how he gets interviewees to reveal their true selves, along with his thoughts on journalism.

  • June 7th (BS Premium) “Fu-un! Dai Rekishi Jikken - Kawanakajima Takeda VS Uesugi Gekisen no Himitsu (Critical Situation! Great History Experiment – Takeda vs Uesugi – Secrets of a Fierce Battle”

    This history experiment variety program attempts to realistically recreate incidents from the past. In this episode, the conflict between Shingen Takeda and Kenshin Uesugi, who faced each other directly in 1561 at the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima, will be investigated. The armies of both sides suffered casualties of 80%. The secret truth about why the battle formations of both armies led to such a historically bloody conflict will be examined.

  • (General TV) overseas drama “Jo-o Victoria Ai ni Ikiru (Victoria)”

    Queen Victoria’s 63-year reign spanned the glory days of the British Empire. This will be the first Japanese broadcast of this epic historical drama that depicts the life of the queen who was loved by her subjects and overcame various crises. Victoria is played by young actress Jenna Coleman, while her voiceover dub is performed by Japanese actress Misako Renbutsu, in her first such role. The eight-part drama will be broadcast every Sunday, beginning at the end of July.
