Eggs

Approx. 329 eggs are annually consumed per person in Japan. This ranks Japan third in that category. Foreigners consider eggs in Japan to be cheap, safe, and in wide variations. ‘Rice with raw egg,’ a popular dish among Japanese yet astounding to foreigners is only made possible by eggs being so safe. We encountered an ‘egg crack detection device’ in operation at the egg packaging factory, the secret to its safety. We look at ‘reversed eggs’, boiled eggs where the yolk and white are reversed, Japanese people’s playful spirit for enjoying egg dishes remains even till today. This program will focus on the relationships Japanese have with eggs.
