SPORTS SCIENCE SERIES
THE MIRACLE BODY 2
Revealing how the world's top athletes use their bodies and skills to produce outstanding results

3 x 50 minutes HD series
Expected completion: January 2010

HD

Victory or defeat in sport is often determined by split-second actions which are invisible to the naked eye or just a blur when captured on conventional cameras. NHK, the acknowledged pioneer and forerunner in the field of special HD videography bring their experience and know-how to this series about high-velocity winter sports.

The second series to showcase the miraculous bodies of world-class athletes (the first focused on the 2008 Beijing Olympic hopefuls), The Miracle Body 2 will focus NHK's ultra high-speed cameras on world class athletes as they train for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Experts will analyse the athletes' tiniest movements with in-depth commentary to reveal what sets these athletes apart from others in their field. The series will show the near superhuman feats, the anatomy of their bodies and minds and the extreme agility, grace and beauty that puts them in a class of their own.

The first episode of The Miracle Body 2 will look at Alpine Skiing, where skiers can reach speeds of 150 km an hour, focusing on Norwegian skier Aksel Lund Svindal. Episode two will feature Figure Skating champion Brian Joubert (France) and Daisuke Takahashi (Japan) where the secrets of the quad jump, the most difficult jump in history and the ultimate jump in figure skating will be examined. In episode three, Swiss ski jumpers Simon Ammann and Andreas Kuttel together with Slovenian Robert Kranjec will demonstrate how tiny variations in their body's response to air resistance can have a huge effect on the length of their jumps.
