This is a documentary that deals with the people and companies involved in the development of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Those who defend the atomic bombs often used the expression a “necessary evil”. But the consensus over the military necessity of the attacks was a myth fabricated by politicians, military leaders and physicists involved in the Manhattan Project.
Based on revisited and recently exhumed archive images, this documentary provides a shocking new insight into the apocalyptic bombings.

Volcano Devils follows the criss-crossing trajectories of Katia and Maurice Krafft, the famous French volcanologists and adventurers who died in a volcanic eruption in Japan 20 years ago. It also highlights the journalists, officials, scientists, firemen, policemen, and locals who had to make crucial decisions. On June 3rd, 1991, all eyes were on Mt. Unzen listening to each beat coming from the heart of the volcano. A call for evacuation had been made when the volcano erupted, taking the lives of 43 people, including the Kraffts.

Shot totally in HD, Volcano Devils (90 min. x 1) combines exclusive archive material, interviews with survivors, breathtaking aerial views, and spectacular CGI images with dramatic and moving re-enactment to depict the tragic events. It’s a true co-production since the script, shooting, direction, and post-production were all handled by Boréales and NHK together.
